Update: Moving to Hickam AFB

It took a bit of work, but we're here. Not unpacked, but here.

Edit: Not without the help of several fantastic people and a moving service.

The house is a maze of boxes and crates. Every now and then you hear a phantom toy, singing a song of escape from inside an unlabeled box. Today I found a talking, plastic book wedged under a cushion. It had apparently been singing "Mary Had a Little Lamb" non-stop for the 2 days since I had seen it last. I hope the book remembers how I saved her when the Robotic Uprising happens.

There really is a strong sense of community on the bases here. At least, compared to what I'm used to. The irregular "hello" I received in Arkansas from my neighbours was light years ahead of the occasional eye contact I received from my South African neighbours. During the move our AMR neighbours were fantastic. We have invited people over for fun and games once we get settled. Today we got some cupcakes from our neighbours across the street. People seem genuinely interested in us and keen to help out. Sure beats a 4 foot wall covered in Eina Ivy.

Hope everyone had a fantastic Halloween.
We missed out on all the fun. I've been meaning to make more Facebook comments about everyone's costumes, but I haven't got round to it yet. My favorites, at a glance, would probably be Lisa Miller as a garden gnome and Don Helt as B.A. Baracus. Even though we didn't really celebrate Halloween at all, we did manage to dress Edie up. Our plan this year was to go all out Toho monster movie. Edith was to be Godzilla, I was to be King Kong, Kristina was to be Mothra and Frankie was still open to debate. Gamera was the best option. In the end we did get Edith to stomp around in her costume

Today was Guy Fawkes Day. We didn't celebrate it in 2009. Melanie did set up a webcam for me to see some of the fireworks at Blauwberg. They were good this year. Apparently the show lasted 3 hours. I wonder if Mr. Fawkes had that kind of firepower. Maybe if he spread it out a bit more he could have pulled off a show that long. Lots of sparklers and bottle rockets, perhaps?

I am changing my blog up a lot these days. Mostly, I want it to be readable. In the next few months I may very well shut down the baby blog and splice it into our personal blogs. More and that later. For now a new template and some post organisation. Apart from tagging my posts I also intend to post blogs that stick to only a few topics. That way you can skip a blog if the title has something to do with Warcraft or Linux if you aren't interested in those things. More to come later!
