If I had to categorize my gaming style, I'd say I'm a hardcore casual gamer. I don't get into the big titles, largely because I don't own a serious console (XBox 360 or PS3) and World of Warcraft (and the other MMOs I've briefly been interested in) have tied up my computer from 2004 clear through 2009. Thing is, when I do play, I don't mess around. This year has been good to me so far. I bought New Super Mario Brother Wii, played through the Telltale Games Monkey Island games and sampled some of the popular indie platformers that people have been freaking out about (final verdict: Trine > Braid). Things that have me excited? Sonic 4 is top of my list. I am glad that there has been a return to the Old Way. Graphic Adventures and Platformers will always be awesome. Hopefully they will be with us for a long time (now that they're back again, at least). Who knows, maybe we'll see a game developed by yours truly in the not too distant future! Maybe.
On to the meat and potatoes of this blog: Edie and Frankie. I know no-one comes here to read about the games I'm currently playing, so let me give you some baby news! Frankie has started squirming all over the place. She rolls every-which-way with great speed, very much like Edie at her age. She is also making lots of noise and calls for her mama when she is sad. Well, Edie said "dada" before she said "mama," so I guess 1 in 2 ain't all that bad. Edie has taken to referring to both of us as "Daddy" out of sheer defiance, I think. It annoys Kristina and Edie delights in that. There's a lot of auntie Melanie in that one! Edie can also count all the way up to 11! Her longest memorized phrase apart from that is "Oh no! Chicka chicka boom boom!" When it comes to original thoughts, she's largely onto 2 word sentences right now, but she can also identify red and green, boy and girl, several animals (shapes, names and sounds) and she sings along to "Twinkle Twinkle," "Old MacDonald," "Row Your Boat," and several PBS show theme songs. Oh yes, and she can COUNT! Video evidence? I'm working on that! People who have Skyped us have seen most of the above things, but only my mom has heard Edie counting.

EDIT: Just had this conversation with Melanie on Skype:
[9:38:03 PM] Melanie: haha so edie calls kristina dada?
[9:38:10 PM] Carl: Daddy
[9:38:19 PM] Melanie: haha thats funny
[9:38:28 PM] Carl: she'll come when Kristina says "come to mama"
[9:38:42 PM] Carl: and she will sing "mama and daddy and didi"
[9:39:04 PM] Carl: but when Kristina says, "Who am I?" Edie gets this naughty look on her face and says "Daddy."
[9:39:15 PM] Melanie: haha
[9:39:20 PM] Melanie: that is funny
[9:39:27 PM] Melanie: hope she doesnt call me oom
[9:39:39 PM] Carl: haha. She called Mom Oupa.
[9:40:09 PM] Carl: that only came up because she somehow opened a picture of Dad while I was talking to Mom on Skype and told me that the picture was of Oupa.
[9:40:31 PM] Carl: I told her to say "hi" to Ouma and she wouldn't. She kept saying Oupa instead.
"Oom" means "uncle." "Ouma" means "grandmother" and "oupa" means "grandfather."
